11 My child, do not reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t get angry when he corrects you. The Lord corrects those he loves, just as parents correct the child they delight in. Proverbs 3:11-12 (NCV)

Jonah is a story of God’s great love for Jonah and God’s love for you. There are four evidences of God’s love for Jonah.

GOD CALLED JONAH.  Jonah 1:1-3

GOD CHASTENED JONAH.  Jonah 1:4-7

GOD CLEANESED JONAH. Jonah 3:1-3 a

Obedience is doing what God wants, when he wants it with a right heart attitude.

God blesses his ministry.  But Jonah, instead of rejoicing, he was upset, out on the hillside pouting.  Jonah went out and sat down east of the city. There he made a shelter for himself and sat in the shade, waiting to see what would happen to the city. Jonah 4:5 (NCV)

GOD COUNSELED JONAH   Jonah 4:6-11

My son, give me thine heart” (Pro 23:26)

In Chapter one God had Jonah’s mind.

In Chapter two God got a hold of Jonah’s body.

In Chapter three God has Jonah’s will.

Maybe you’ve been given a 2nd chance but your heart just isn’t in it.

In Chapter 4 God wants Jonah’s heart.

Jesus accepts us where we are but He loves us too much to just leave us there.

Have we become more concerned about things that are physical than things that are spiritual?

“When you lose your life that’s when you’ll find it.”  Jesus

The World is Mine

Today, upon a bus, I saw a lovely girl with golden hair,

I envied her, she seemed so happy, and I wished that I were as fair.

When suddenly she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle,

She had one leg and wore a crutch, and as she passed, she smiled.

O God, forgive me when I whine, I have two legs, and the world is mine.

And then I stopped to by some sweets, that lad who sold them had such charm,

I talked with him he seemed so glad, if I were late t’would do no harm.

And as I left he said to me, “Thank you, you’ve been so kind,

It’s nice to talk to folks like you, you see, he said, I am blind.

Oh God, forgive me when I whine, I have two legs, and the world is mine.

Later waking down the street, I saw a child with eyes of blue,

He stood and watched the others play, it seemed he knew not what to do,

I stopped a moment then I said, “Why don’t you join the others dear”,

He looked ahead with out a word and then I knew, he could not hear.

Oh God, forgive me when I whine, I have two legs, and the world is mine.

With legs to take me where I’d go, with eyes to see the sunset’s glow,

With ears to hear what I would know,

Oh God, forgive me when I whine, I am blessed, the world is mine.
