The Place of the Battle of Armageddon - Revelation 16:16

The word Armageddon means, “the mount of Megiddo.” Megiddo means “slaughter,” so the meaning of Armageddon is, “Mount of Slaughter.”

The Battle will be centralized at Megiddo, but it will not be contained there. The war will be fought throughout the entire land of Israel.

The word that is translated "battle" in Revelation 16:14 is the Greek word polemos, which signifies “a war or a campaign.” Armageddon will actually involve many battles fought throughout the entire land of Israel.

The Purpose of the Battle of Armageddon

A. To Finish His Judgment upon Israel:

B. To Finalize His Judgment upon the Nations that have Persecuted Israel: Joel 3:2

C. To Formally Judge All the Nations that have Rejected Christ: Revelation 19:15.

And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. Revelation 16:9

The Perspective of the Battle of Armageddon

· In the battle of Gog, Russia and at least five other nations are involved (Eze 38:2-6). In the battle of Armageddon, all the nations of the world are involved (Joel 3:2; Zech. 14:2).

In the battle of Gog, the invaders will be led from the north (Eze 38:6, 15; Eze 39:2). In the battle of Armageddon, the armies come from the north, south, east and west (Daniel 11:40-45; Zech 14:2; Rev 16:12-16).
In the battle of Gog, the purpose of the armies is to "take plunder and to take booty" (Eze 38:12). In the battle of Armageddon, the purpose is to annihilate the Jews and to fight Christ and His army (Zech 12:2-3, 9; Zech 14:2; Rev 19:19).
In the battle of Gog, Russia will be the leader of the nations (Eze 38:13). In the battle of Armageddon, the Antichrist will be the leader (Rev 19:19).
In the battle of Gog, God defeats the northern invaders with the convulsions of the earth, the confusion of the troops, the contagion of diseases and calamities from the sky (Eze 38:19-22). In the battle of Armageddon, the armies are defeated by the word of Christ ("a sharp sword," Rev 19:15, 21).
After the battle of Gog, war will continue with other nations involved during the remainder of the Tribulation (Rev 13:4-7). After the battle of Armageddon, swords and spears will be beaten into plowshares and pruning hooks (Isa 2:4), and the nations will study war no more.

The Participants in the Battle of Armageddon

All the nations of the world lead by the Anti-Christ, but there will be those who resist.

"At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships..." Daniel 11:40 -

The Disturbing News from the East

" But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury..." Daniel 11:44 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. Revelation 16:12 Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred million…” Revelation 9:16

All of these things are being inspired and directed by the very demons of hell: For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Revelation 16:14

The Descending Lord from the Heavens

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of the Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Revelation 19:11-16
